How to use the Mutual Fund Directory

This page lists the mutual fund schemes in AMFI’s official NAV file, the same file every fund house reports to. Pick a category (for example Flexi Cap Fund or Liquid Fund) or a fund house, or type part of a name in the search box, and the list narrows down at once. Tick a fund, then press Analyze Fund to see its trailing, discrete and rolling returns, or SIP Backtest to test a monthly SIP in it. Tick two funds and press Compare Funds to put them side by side. Your ticks stay while you change filters and pages.

What the filters mean

Direct plan – a plan bought straight from the fund house, with a lower expense ratio because no distributor commission is built in. Regular plan – a plan bought through a distributor, with commission included in its expenses. The two plans of one scheme invest in the same portfolio but have different NAVs and returns.

Growth option – profits stay invested and show up as a rising NAV. IDCW option (Income Distribution cum Capital Withdrawal, earlier called Dividend) – the fund pays out part of its NAV from time to time, which lowers the NAV; it is hidden by default because payouts make NAV-based return figures misleading.

Plan not stated / Inferred – for a few schemes (for example some Motilal Oswal, Edelweiss and Aditya Birla Sun Life funds) AMFI’s file leaves the plan and option blank and repeats the same name on several rows. Where the pattern is clear, the page works out the plan and option from the NAV (a Direct plan always has a higher NAV than the Regular plan of the same scheme) and the ISINs, and marks the row Inferred; roughly 1 in 70 such guesses can be wrong, so please confirm with the fund house. Where it is not clear, the row is marked Plan not stated and shows its scheme code. These schemes are kept together in their own category, Plan not stated (at the bottom of the Category list, below Duplicate schemes), and are not mixed into the normal Direct / Regular lists.

Inception – the date of the first NAV on record for that plan, taken from the NAV history published by AMFI. It is usually the date the plan was launched, but it can be later: Direct plans began on 1 January 2013 even where the scheme is older, and for schemes launched before AMFI’s online NAV history starts the date shown is where that history begins. A dash means no NAV history was available (for example a closed scheme or one that is not yet in our data). Choose Inception date under Sort by to list the oldest or newest first. Please confirm the exact launch date in the scheme’s offer document.

Average AUM – the average assets under management of a scheme over the latest quarter published by AMFI, in ₹ crore (1 crore = 10 million). The big figure is the whole scheme (all its plans added together); where a scheme has several plans, the smaller line also shows the AUM of that plan alone. It is updated when AMFI publishes a new quarter, about two to three weeks after the quarter ends. A dash means AMFI’s AUM list has no figure for that scheme code (for example a very new scheme, an exchange-traded fund, or a plan listed under another code). Choose Average AUM (high to low) under Sort by to list the biggest schemes first. AUM is a measure of size only, not of quality.

Duplicate (same-name) schemes – sometimes AMFI lists the same fund house, category and name on several scheme codes without saying how they differ (older plans, or blank plan / option fields). The normal lists show one of them; the others are kept in the Duplicate (same-name) schemes category with their scheme code, ISIN and latest NAV so that you can match them with the fund house’s own documents.

Closed / matured schemes – schemes that have not published a NAV for more than 45 days (for example matured fixed-term plans). They are hidden unless you tick the box above.

What this list is, and is not

The list is sorted alphabetically. It is not a ranking, a recommendation or a “best funds” list, and being listed here does not mean a scheme is suitable for you. Scheme names, categories and fund houses are as published by AMFI; new schemes appear within a day of AMFI listing them.
